By definition, interior design encompasses diverse aspects of our environment. The discipline extends to building materials and finishes; casework, furniture.
Biophilia is the idea that humans possess an innate tendency to seek connections with nature. The term translates to ‘the love of living things’ in ancient Greek (philia = the love of / inclination towards), and was used by German-born American psychoanalyst Erich Fromm in The Anatomy of Human Destructiveness (1973), which described biophilia as “the passionate love of life and of all that is alive.” The term was later used by American biologist Edward O. Site : Rishikesh
Status : Un Built/Concept Stage
Client Brief:
The site for the Cafe was supposed to be on a rooftop of a hotel in Rishikesh situated on the banks of Ganges. The brief for the project was to utilize the said roof top and design a cafe below an already existing metal shed roof with a unique idea.
Concept:
We decided to take inspiration from a very skilled builder found in nature- the Yellow Weaver bird acquiring their name from the unique way they construct their nests.
The weaver bird makes use of its skill to make knots of reed, hay, dried leaves etc. to construct her nest resulting in very beautiful round and cylindrical structures
hanging from trees.
The idea was simple- to reproduce a weaver nest as cafe sitting wrap around providing comfort and privacy along with giving a completely unique aesthetic appeal to the whole setup giving the guests an experience of a weaver bird perching in her nest.
